ALTERNATIVE LIVELIHOOD PROJECT FOR ABACA FARMERS

February 2021

Discussion and consultation with Rizal Abaca Stripper Association (RASA) on the potential of Oyster mushroom growing (or farming) as an alternative livelihood

COLLABORATION WITH GRAMEEN FOUNDATION REGARDING THE USAID-FUNDED FARMER TO FARMER PROGRAM IN THE PHILIPPINES

March 2021

MoU was executed between GRAMEEN Foundation, Philseaboard, Inc., on the facilitation of the Farmer to Farmer Program that aims to provide awareness and technology transfer to the coconut farmers in Catanduanes.

PARTNERSHIP WITH FILSCIHUB ON A LIVELIHOOD PROGRAM TO EMPOWER THE YOUTH

October and December 2021

Training on Mushroom Production “Para sa kalusugan at dagdag pagkakakitaan” for Rizal Youth Eco Mushroom Organization in Eastern Cavinitan, Virac, Catanduanes was conducted to provide worthwhile extra-curricular activities and livelihood for impoverished families. Collaboration with FILSCIHUB, a non-profit organization based in the U.S. and Canada that promotes science, technology and engineering to help the Philippines was established.

DISTRIBUTION OF DONATED BIO-N AND MYKOVAM BIOFERTILIZERS

November 2021

Philseaboard, Inc. requested some BIO-N and MYKOVAM biofertilizers donation from UPLBBIOTECH and distributed them to RASA who aside from abaca farms, they are also doing vegetable gardening.

COMMUNITY ADOPTION AND COMMERCIALIZATION OF CATSU TECHNOLOGY “MULTI-CROP CHIPPER”

November 2021

An MoU was executed between CatSU and Philseaboard regarding the community adoption and commercialization of CatSU’s “Multi-Crop Chipper” for future use in developing livestock feeds. Exhibits were made to showcase cakes, and pudding cookies made from cassava and sweet potato starch using chipper.

PARTNERSHIP WITH CATSU AND DA ON A TRAINING AND WORKSHOP ON KABUTENG SAGING (VOLVARIELLA VOLVACEA) CULTURE ON ABACA WASTE SUBSTRATE

December 2021 and January 2022

To help augment the income of abaca farmers in the province, the use of abaca processing wastes as probable substrate for the cultivation of a highvalue mushroom (Volvariella volvacea) was explored and in partnership with CatSU and the Municipal Agriculture, abaca farmers in Rizal San Andres, Catanduanes were trained on the technology.
